What should I expect from my first therapy session?

Sessions are structured with a start, middle and end. Simply put, we see what’s troubling you, discuss your thoughts and feelings around your chosen topics, and then I offer feedback on what you’ve said.

First of all, I will aim to help you to relax. I will make you feel welcome and gently inquire what your expectations and aims are in the sessions. The first session is also called a consultation because it gives us both a chance to see if we’re a good fit to work with each other.

Secondly, I aim to listen as you give me an overview in order for me to understand what you’ve been through and help establish how I can be helpful.

Finally, we would round off the session with a summary of the topics discussed that were most important to you. This is to help you learn something valuable to improve your life experience.
